Dear Diary - From Maria

Dear Diary,

It’s Maria again. I am so excited to see what Malvolio will actually do now that he has read the fake note I wrote him. J Do you think he will actually take it seriously? OMG!!!! What if he actually goes to Olivia and starts proclaiming his love to her, and shows her the letter?!! HAHAHAHA I will laugh sooooooooo hard if he actually does. Malvolio is SUCH an idiot. A poor, hopeless idiot. I still can’t believe he thinks he even has a chance with Olivia. Can you imagine him as a Count? HA is all I have to say. If he were ever in a seat of power, our country would end up in flames. I know for a fact that everyone thinks this too. They all think he is annoying, especially Sir Toby. Since he is Olivia’s uncle, if Malvolio were to ever marry her (yeah right) he would be of equal or greater power that Sir Toby. That idea sure does get Sir Toby stockings in a knot. Well, I have to get back to my duties and plans. I will let you know how everything pans out. Ttyl! Maria

Favorite Quotations

"...My stars shine darkly over me. The malignancy of my fate might perhaps distemper yours..." (2.1.3-4). This is a quote said by Sebastian. I chose this quote because I like how it describes his fate as dark stars that hang over his head, and threaten Antonio as well as himself.

"...O Time, thou must untangle this, not I. It is too hard a knot for me t' untie" (2.2.40-41). I chose this quote by Viola because it is a perfect description of the love triangle unfolding within the plot.

"...For Monsieur Malvolio, let me alone with him. If I do not gull him into [a nayword] and make him a common recreation, do not think I have wit enough to lie straight in my bed. I know I can do it" (2.3.133-137). I like this line of Maria's because it shows that, in that time period, even though she was a woman, she was strong willed, and she knew how to get things done. She could even get the job done more efficiently than a man.

"...We men may say more, swear more, but indeed our shows are more than will; for still we prove much in our vows but little in our love" (2.4.128-130). This line of Viola's shows a truth about men in that time period, and that is what I like about it. Back then, men made big shows out of their affections, but they usually were never to the proportions they were exclaiming them to be.

"Here comes the little villain.- How now, my metal of India"(2.5.12-13)? In this line of Sir Toby's, I like the way the word villain is used as a term of endearment.
